Education
In 2008, Lonsum funded 144 scholarships for students of primary, junior high and senior high schools around the estates, including the provision of books and computers. The Company also rehabilitated ten school buildings in North Sumatra, South Sumatra and East Kalimantan. A program to raise the skill levels of kindergarten teachers was undertaken by Lonsum in cooperation with the Indonesian Heritage Foundation.
Health
A program of health checks for women and children was held in one of our estates in North Sumatra. The program provided health screening for new mothers and babies, blood checking, USG, pregnancy consultation, and milk and vitamin provision.
Festivity
During the Lebaran and Christmas periods, the Company provided 6,465 packages for poor families living around our estates in North Sumatra, South Sumatra, East Kalimantan, South Sulawesi, West Java and East Java.
Economic
In an effort to improve the economic self-sufficiency of communities around our estates, an educational course in goat husbandry was introduced in North and South Sumatra. This program was successful because of the easy techniques, low risk of failure and relatively quick benefits to the community.
